Feather and Fan throw

Image
Made for my grandmother for Christmas. I used WoolEase to keep it machine washable. I actually had a nightmare about this stitch pattern last week. There were people all around me and everything they were wearing was feather and fan.

Magic Ball scarf

Image
I won a "magic ball" scarf kit at the Austin Knit-Out a few months ago. It was provided by Bluebonnet Yarn Shoppe in Cedar Park.

Baby's First Tattoo

Better view of swallows on front of baby cardi.

Sweater penguin

Image
Finished Baby's First Tattoo sweater from Stitch and Bitch. I used Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. I decided to use stranded colorwork for the swallows instead of duplicate stitching them on later. The model is a toy penguin from Moody Gardens in Galveston.

Cables and ribbing

Image
Close up of second attempt at cabled hat from SnB Nation. This time I used Cascade 220 superwash (less than 1 skein). The result was much better this time. Greater stitch definition and a tighter fabric. I love this photo!

Hurry Up Spring Armwarmers

Image
Finished armwarmers from SnB Nation in Paton's Soy Wool Stripes. I used just under one skein, so I've got an extra skein to make another pair to give away. SWS is a low-twist single that's pretty nice to work with. There's a slight itch factor, but not enough to really bug me. I imagine it's nicer than Kureyon, which is what the pattern calls for. I like Kureyon for felting, but would not want to wear it close to the skin. Plus SWS has no annoying veggie matter or breaks. And it's cheap! At Michael's! Time will tell if there's a pilling issue, though. I almost forgot to rant about the pattern! The cable design is mirrored on the second armwarmer. When I first started the second one, I mirrored the placement of symbols on the chart but not the symbols themselves. I realized after just a couple of rows that it couldn't possibly be right, so I mentally flipped the symbols too (yay o-chem!) and it was just fine. Would it really have killed

Exchequered

Image
Finally finished Exchequered from knitty. I used Filati Bamboo on size 3 needles.

Image
Booga bag 2 felted Originally uploaded by Buxtrosion . Finally finished felting the second Booga bag. This colorway didn't knit up the way I expected. I think it suits the person who will be receiving it, though.

I'm starting a store on etsy.com to sell handspun yarn, knitting-themed magnets, and other crafty stuff. You can find it at spinalcat.etsy.com

Steering wheel cover closeup

Image
Steering wheel cover Originally uploaded by Buxtrosion . I used a funky novelty yarn from Hobby Lobby that's similar to LionBrand Trellis, but with a furry strand running through the ladder. For a sporty vertical stripe, I did a bit of intarsia.

Booga bag in progress

Image
Booga bag in progress Originally uploaded by Buxtrosion . Booga bag almost ready to be felted. This is going to be a Christmas present for my mother in law. It's not a surprise anymore since she picked out the yarn (Noro Kureyon). We went to Bluebonnet Yarn Shoppe last weekend. There was such a great vibe in that shop- the staff seemed to be having a lot of fun. I love the Cascade 220 wall and the well laid out Noro. I love working with this yarn on projects to be felted. They work up so quick and pretty. I used another colorway of Kureyon on the Kitty Pi bed.

DS case from handspun yarn

Image
DS case from handspun yarn Originally uploaded by Buxtrosion . So I frogged the wristwarmer (too scratchy) and made this Nintendo DS case from my Kool-Aid dyed handspun. (It's the same yarn, it just looks duller without the flash on) The general mode of construction was inspired by the electronics cozies in Stitch n Bitch, but I just worked it to fit the DS and added an i-cord strap. Hopefully it will keep the DS happy on our trip.

Wrist cuff

Image
Wrist cuff Originally uploaded by Buxtrosion . Made from my first handspun and Kool-Aid dyed yarn. Very simple, very quick on size 10.5 needles. I just wanted something I could wear made of my first yarn! I have enough left over for maybe a cell phone or ipod cozy. Hmm. . .
